  • 2 oz tequila (blanco or reposado)
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 3/4 oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or triple sec)
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup (optional, for a sweeter margarita)

  • 1 lime wedge
  • ice cubes

Method 

  1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a glass and dip it in coarse salt to coat.
  2. Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  3. In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, and simple syrup with a handful of ice.
  4. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds until well chilled.
